GAME 2023 NFL Draft Thread

Feelings aside, I’m just explaining why they did it. Swift is gone.
Understand. I was just explaining why it was a terrible pick, as there is no value in drafting a change of pace RB that high. He has no chance to ever be a bell cow back with his size, so it is a crazy pick to make.
For the last two years -- Detroit has been doing it right. Building in the trenches in the early rounds. We had a chance to make the defensive line a tremendous strength and instead we made "the smartest guy in the room" type picks. Reaching for shiny toys on offense and ignoring positional value. That has never worked for Detroit.

RB seems pretty weak this year. I wouldn't take any of the remaining guys until the 3rd round. I'm sure some team will reach on one though and it will start a run of a few of them.

Bijan & Gibbs were the clear 1/2. They still both got take too early though.
Bijan -- I totally get. He will be a guy you can give the ball 20-25 times. He led all RB's in broken tackles last year. He is a great pass catcher. He has the size to pick up blitzes. He doesn't have to leave the field if Atlanta wants him out there.

Gibbs is not that RB. He is a change of pace guy. Montgomery will be the guy out there running between the tackles, not Gibbs. Gibbs will be a guy used in certain packages. On the goal line -- Gibbs won't be in the game, it will be Montgomery.

I love Gibbs as a player, but the pick makes no sense at all with the talent on the board to take at CB, DE, DT, etc.

I agree that Gibbs was a much bigger reach than Bijan. He maybe woulda still been sitting there in the 2nd, at least maybe try to trade down and pick up a few more picks and take him later in the 1st. Not #12

There was a 99.9% chance Gibbs would have been on the board at pick 18. I love the Lions, but that pick arguably the worst pick of the entire first round.

Word is both Pats (14) & Jets (15) were taking him.

Taking a guy from Rodgers is a bonus.

Campbell is 6'5" 250. He had the fastest 3 cone time for any LB, had the 2nd highest vertical, won the Butkus Award as the best LB in college last year and ran a 4.6.

I can get past the Campbell pick, as he is more of a system/coach fit player. I HATE drafting a MLB that early, as they can be had throughout. Our starting MLB last year was our 6th round pick last year and he played great for us. Malcolm Rodriguez. But the MLB we drafted is the epitome of the type of player who fits the culture Dan Campbell and Brad Holmes are building.

F that RB pick though :pound:
Isn’t Anzelone the middle linebacker?

Rodrigo plays will.

Everything is tee’d up LFG V.2!!!!

An Iowa TE to the Lions?

That's NEVER happened before!

How do these full-time fans in the Modelo commercials pay rent/their mortgage.

You get those "stories" all the time. The Jets drafted Breece Hall and Zonovan Knight last year to go along with Michael Carter.
Simple fact is -- NO RUNNING BACK has been drafted in the top 24 in the last 5 years until Bijan was picked at 8. I haven't looked at the draft history, but I'd wager you would have to go WAAAAY back to find a team spending a top 15 pick on a change of pace RB.

Waste a top 10 pick on a TE from Iowa, only to trade him away to draft a TE from Iowa at 34th overall.

Dear Lions,
You had a top 5 offense last year. An offense who excelled AFTER trading away Hockenson. We had the 32nd ranked defense. Instead of luxury picks like a change of pace RB and a pass catching TE who can't block well -- WHY DON'T YOU WORK ON FIXING THE DEFENSE.

As a Lions fan right now -- I feel like I'm at a fantasy draft where everyone is laughing at the guy who thinks he is the smartest guy in the room making off the wall picks, except this is the NFL draft and it is my favorite team making the "smartest guy in the room" picks that everyone is laughing at.

I hardly watch any NFL anymore.

But I’d like to see JAX get Jones & Durham from Purdue.

WR next?

May as well -- Let's draft Hendon Hooker and Jalin Hyatt with our next 2 picks. We can fix the holes in our defense with our 5th round picks.

Good plan. James Houston was a 6th round pick.

Lions trading up for a blocking TE or power RB!!!!
