2020 season thread

My guy's out now so I guess I'll root for the kid.

Harvick kept me on the edge of my seat the whole race, I thought he was going to pull it off.

He had to make the pass, I don't see how he had a choice.
He had a choice. To me, the Chase and playoffs is just a crock of shit, under the real points system, Harvick clinched the title today.

But if I'm a decision maker at Stewart Haas, Chase Briscoe replaces Clint Bowyer a race early and Almirola's contract extension would be cancelled.

I'd have to see a replay, but watching it live, I'm not exactly sure Harvick needed to hook Busch. He needed to make the pass, but hooking him (as we saw), is the worst option. He was underneath him with the better car. I believe he should have had enough drive off the corner to outpull him down the straight or at the very least, drive Busch up into the wall. It would have been close (like literally a nose) but he could have made it. But once you turn right to hook, you lose all momentum and you're just praying you don't spin as well. But he was basically just left with bad options thanks to Nascar's dumbass point system.

You know your system is all kinds of fucked up when your two best drivers all season (Harvick and Hamlin) could both be eliminated in the closing laps and then your best driver (Harvick) ultimately is. But the Chase/Playoffs cost Gordon 3 championships and they never learned, so I doubt they'll ever correct their mistake. Given their history, they'll just double down on stupid because every iteration so far has been worse than the last

There are also fans in the social media things calling for an investigation into Erik Jones not passing Denny Hamlin and whether that was intentional and therefore, team meddling. I don't think anything will come of that as Jeff Gordon's not around to be bonused a spot.

Hamlin was crying like a bitch on the radio to get them to have Jones leave him alone. I guess it could have been an act but I just thought it was Hamlin whining.

I’m fucking pissed. This format ain’t racing its Circus Bullshit. Harvick gets fucked over after dominating this season because of this Mickey Mouse Bullshit. FUCK NASCAR

This would be his 4th championship season under the format Dale Sr won all his titles. It's what I recognize even if that forces me to recognize Jeff Gordon as a 7 time champ as well.

I was OK with the original Chase of 10 drivers resetting for the Final 10 races. But once they started adding drivers and then changed the format again 5 or 6 years ago, it is just stupid. The stages are fucking stupid also...If they have to do the stages do it while keeping the race Green. The cautions are dumb.

I'm not a fan of stages.

At the Coke 600 where there's 3 points paying stages, it's possible to finish 26th and get more points than the winner of the race, that's crap.

No system is perfect. Elliott dominated 1985 and didn't win the title. Rusty dominated 1993 and didn't win. I feel bad for Harvick, but this has always been about consistency, only now you need to be ultra consistent over the last 10 races and not all season.

seems weird Harvick wont be in the final 4.
When I heard Phoenix was gonna be the final race I put Harvick as the odds on favorite to be the Champion. Now he wont even be in it.

does make me wonder with Harvick only needing one point, why Almirola or Bowyer didnt Pit for a "loose wheel" or something.
It would have put an SHR car into the championship

Pitting would have made no difference. Both drivers would have passed the pitting car so the points would have netted zero for Harvick.

Keselowski was already ahead of both of them.

Harvick’s only good teammate that benefited him his whole career was Jeff Burton.

Jeff Green and Robby Gordon we a rookie Harvick’s teammates.

Had Harvick and Stewart teamed up earlier, that could have been like Jimmie and Jeff, but Tony was already over the hill when Harvick came to SHR

I would have to rewind the old DVR to see but I will take your word for it. I doubt that any owners wanted to risk the Michael Waltrip career enhancement program.
Loose wheels are easy to fake

Just don't do like Mikey ... use a codeword when the owner wants it. It would be a big gamble for the owner, get caught and sponsors leave with cause.
The 14 is mostly sponsored by Stewart and Haas owned companies anyways.

Smithfield is the only reason Almirola is still in the 10, so more risky for the 10 team
