GAME 2023 NFL Draft Thread

If Carter wasn’t filled with red flags he would have gone earlier than 6 anyways. Bears took two DT’s after R1 after passing on Carter. His own coaches said don’t draft him. Can’t sell me that passing on him for a star weapon was a bad move.

Campbell went exactly where he was supposed to go, in R1. Top MLB the draft. And we got Brian Branch, the top S in the draft. Taking them in an order you don’t agree with doesn’t mean the D wasn’t addressed.
Lol

"Star weapon"

I've watched every second of every Lions game. Okudah has been not just terrible for the Lions, but terrible as a CB in the entire NFL. I'm talking historically bad.

A good deal of this ranking hinges on Jeff Okudah looking more like the player who ranked fourth on PFF’s draft board back in 2020 and less like the one who’s allowed a career 121.8 passer rating into his coverage.

To put how bad that is in perspective -- Patrick Mahomes career passer rating is 105.7. So he makes QB's look light years better than Mahomes.

I wanted nothing to do with McDonald -- we have Julian Okwara who is exactly like McDonald. Van Ness is another I didn't want. Tyree Wilson and Jalen Carter were the only two I was looking at. Detroit will need all the guys who were hurt last year to step up this year and the fact he passed on those guys makes me think -- the staff believes they will.

Still not thrilled with the draft we had in the 1st round, but I understand it more now, as they are looking to strike while our division is down and the players they drafted will definitely help immediately, even though they may not have the ceiling of some other players they could have drafted.
Yeah, none of that changes the fact he was playing very well last year before his concussion. Go ahead and google it, there are plenty of articles outlining exactly what I'm saying. Even when you count his post-concussion games when his play fell off a cliff, his numbers were dramatically better than what you're talking about.

Maybe you're right about the DL and it was all injuries, we'll see. I just know an elite pass rush gets teams further than a good complimentary RB and a good off-ball LB. If it works this year and you win the division and make a deep playoff run, that's awesome, but you didn't position yourself very well beyond that by wasting 2 first rounders.

Lions, Eagles and Cowboys nailed the draft. All got a grade of an A after I analyzed their drafts thoroughly.

No one is denying you're a nerd about the draft.

We just don't think your team did very good in the draft and you keep providing unreferenced screenshots of someone saying it wasn't that bad.

I don't think you understand how that meme is supposed to work, knuckle tats

your first round pick was a reach for a change of pace RB that could have been gotten later in the draft...

hell, if they had traded back to later in the first round it would have made more sense...it just didn't make sense there.

he might be good for your team, but it wasn't the pick to be made right there.

you understand this, right?

Most enjoyable draft in years. Really great seeing the Lions finally have a good GM calling the shots.

In Green Bay's defense -- New England once drafted two TE's early a draft and they were both stars. And on the plus side -- only one of New England's TE picks ended up being a murderer.

Only one that we know of...

This. Obviousy Monty is going to get his carries for what they're paying him, so even if Gibbs is a stud, he's still a RB and you don't win championships with 1st round RBs.

East definitely comes down to Philly vs Dallas. Lions will be favored to win the North for the first time since 93 (I think). Exciting times for sure.

This just proves how insanely high the bar is now set in Detroit — SB or bust. Love it. We’ve come a long way from competing w Chicago for 4th in the Norris.

It is not SB or bust. You went 9-8 last year. You went all-in on this year with the type of signings you made on defense but it all has to click just for you to win the division, let alone get to the SB.

the lions are still missing some parts to make a legit run...but using a twelfth pick on Gibbs is just silly.

and everyone but Bob here seems to get that.

Oh snap.

The Norris had a nice draft (minus the Queens 😂)

even he hated the Gibbs pick...not sure how you can give a team an overall A after basically giving them a D with their most important pick...

Detroit Lions: A

Best Pick: I love the pick of tight end Sam LaPorta in the second round. He's a playmaking tight end who can run like a receiver. Jared Goff will love him. The offense will be better with his skills.

Worst Pick: Can you like a player and not like the pick? That's the way I see it with 12th overall pick Jamyr Gibbs. He is a running back who is more of an air back, but I still think he went too high. You don't take backs that high.

The Skinny: The Lions and general manager Brad Holmes did some really good things over the weekend. They have positioned their roster for now and the future if third-round quarterback Hendon Hooker is good. I don't like taking a back high, but Gibbs might be more than that. Watch out for third-round defensive tackle Brodric Martin. He is a power player inside. Nice job.
