I imagine they could be but I don't believe that isn't what the article is going for. The way I read what is happening with these new genetically altered plants is the plant begins the flowering process immediately. Where currently we wait several weeks before we cut light back to force plants to start flowering. We do that so the plant builds up mass to support bud growth. This somehow bypasses that requirement.

Right, I read the article, but isn't that exactly what autoflowers do? They ostensibly skip the vegetative state. That's why the grow time is cut in half, and also why they stay small.

The first few weeks, autoflowr plants grow from seed to what ever height it is genetically designed to grow. There isn't any budding or white hairs developing those first few weeks. I think that is the vegetative stage the article is referring to...

I guess I don't get what else they could do?

If I'm reading it right, It appears they are growing buds from the ground up.

Last year had some good and bad, but I'll chock that up to learning.

This year, I'm thinking of concentrating on Autoflowers mostly, for a lot of reasons, but really, being allowed 12 plants at a time, I can easily grow 24+ plants next summer.

The problem I'm running into with the autoflowers is the first 2 weeks of growth. It has to get better/bigger faster.
I think this is due to my 'cold plug' I plant directly into is too large, and the roots take too long to hit the good stuff.


The Super Soil I built last year, I don't think was strong enough, so I'm going to make it considerably 'hotter' this year.

Start with 40 lbs of this


Then I'm adding in 7 lbs of this


Then 2 lbs of Bone Meal
Then 1 lbs of Blood Meal.

So, that's 10 lbs of organic fertilizers into that 40 lb bag that already has some stuff in it.
I'll let you know if it burns the plants up.

I have it mixed up in storage 'cooking'.
It will have 3 months on it before I use it, so cross my fingers.

Yes.
I'm not growing indoors any more. The Summer is long enough to grow all I need for the year, and it's just a pain in the ass to grow inside with a tent, humidifier, heater, exhaust fan, 1000 watts of grow lights, etc.


It's a Coconut husk peat with some nutrients + what I put into it.
It's 'lighter' than soil and lets the roots grow faster..... blah blah blah..... I'll let you know.

I'm going to use it on some tomato plants and green peppers to see if it helps there also.

I have a friend that adds a lot of things like this. I like the mixture you guys are using. But...My plants where much better than his and I want to go back to this statement you made.

Yep...learning. Same thing I told my buddy. What I think he did wrong was his location. There were multiple things that add up to growing good gardens of any kind. This is no different. One issue he had was the soil where he grew wasn't near as good as mine. He thought he could make it better by adding this stuff.

You saying you had good and bad plants made me think of this which is why I chimed in here. If you gave each area the same feedings, then it's most likely the different growing areas that are making the difference. These products we add, they give the plants a good bump, but that energy runs out over a couple of months. Even trying to add it later, it can only do so much. How much umph and how well the overall drainage of the original soil is still important. Water and sunlight also.

Just my 2 cents from a thousand miles or so away.

Mostly because it was the first time I grew any, it was in a tent, and it just wasn't all that great.... it was due to being the first time and not knowing anything about it, but what it did show me is that growing indoors is a pain in the ass that I'm just not going to keep up with.

I'm hoping that my increase in fertilizer will take care of some of it.

I am also of the opinion that sunlight is far superior to grow lights.

I go out everyday and water and check, but thats the end of it.

At least that's what I'm going to try this Summer.

I think indoors is better if you know what you are doing. Biggest advantages are climate control, nutrient control and pest control.

65-80 all this week
some 50's and 60's next week
39 is as low as it gets.

So I noticed a small weed plant that had sprouted in the flower bed I used to grow in last year, a few days ago.

supported it with some soil and put some spare bricks around it to keep it warm at night.

About 4 inches tall now.
Thought I'd just let it go and see what happens.

Freezes are coming back though, so I'll play it by ear and let you know.

I’m getting 3 auto flowers this year. Will put them outside. No rain will hit them.
I don’t require mega production now that I’m able to buy my drops and that sweet black hash.
But I like having plants around in the summer.

Why is this important. I like natural rain water for my plants. I feel like they like it better.

Mould. I don’t worry about it in a vegetative state but when they’re flowering, I don’t like them to get wet. And these supposedly flower right away.
I use water from my creek. Fill a watering can every couple of days.

Mold can be a problem. Part of my research when buying seeds is making sure I get seeds that produce mold resistant plants.

What I really don't like is morning dew. It really makes mildew thrive around here.

I haven't had any problems with mold, but 100 degree Summers probably help out a lot with that.
It's already 80 degrees before I get up in the mornings.
