Sadly, my first Guide Bear Norka passed away suddenly after an altercation with a garbage truck little over five years ago. My new service animal/Guide Bear, his name is Parka and he likes to chase the garbage truck too!

In high school I entertained the idea of being an architect. I loved the mechanical drawing. It was practically therapeutic to me with the small details, the lead holder and velum. I took a couple, two-tree of those classes, then engineering, then signed up for Architecture, but when I went in the next year, the drafting tables had all been laid flat and there were computers on all of them. Drawing was over. I withdrew.

That's just crazy how much has changed because of computers and the internet. In a very short time period too. My hag is a school teacher/marm and they don't even teach cursive hand writing anymore.

I was living in Colorado, when I tried to grow them. Had them on a drip too.

But I don't have a green thumb.

I was seriously considering just going to Home Depot and buying a bunch of crappy sorta flimsy, yet very attractive Hampton Bay cabinets in the same style that I'm building. Those cheapo Hampton Bay Cabinets woulda cost me four times or more as much as these cabinets I'm building and the quality and features of the Hampton's would pale compared to mine.

I have not built cabinets before this project and before I started I drew up plans and measurements for the first 12 cabinets, six base and six wall units. I was meticulous with my plans and measurements and when I felt satisfied I drew up a cut list and I cut every single piece before I put a single box together. These are all the pre-cut pieces.

And then when I assembled the first box, I started with the most difficult one, the largest 36" base. It took me all day just to get the basic box put together because I had to learn new techniques... The very next day I put 3 smaller ones together in one day... Anyway, when that first box went together and it was perfectly square, I had a moment! I got goose bumps and stuff! Almost like a religious experience! @jvett77

Amazing work you're able to do. That all requires planning and care. Hope it all turns out perfect! When I remodeled my kitchen a few years ago, I took the easy Home Depot route and ordered cabinets and was able to install them myself. For me that was an accomplishment for an old man.

Good job back at ya! Installing cabinets is not for a beginner unless it's a very motivated beginner that wants to learn. My install should go pretty straightforward because my house is less than 20 years old and the walls, floors, corners are all pretty square, flat and plumb. I think I will be able to fasten the base cabinets in but I will need help with the wall units. I wish my wheelchair could lift me up 4 or 5 feet off the ground! That would be the ticket!

Hahaha! I have to disagree again. You been pretty good to me since I got here. I remember your user name from FN but I never chatted with you then. I just remember that you had an edge and I thought it best to avoid you so's I don't get all verbally sliced up! But it sure is fun meeting new people and making new friends even if it is online. I tried to do that at another thread here and it hasn't gone very well. I either got some crude and vulgar replies or I got ignored like I don't exist.

One goon, I think it was my first day here, he asked me if my Guide Bear likes to take it in the hind end! And then this other creepy MoFo, he quoted several of my comments so I said, Glad to meet you and he texted back, "I Farted?".... what a doofus! And then three different women over there just flat out ignored me. This one smelly cat lady, the man hater, she asked a silly question and I answered it in a friendly and charming manner trying to get to know her a little bit and I got shunned. And then this Lady Rat's Ass, same thing, just ignores me after some kind words offering to be friends. And then this last one, well at least she put a 'like' on my comment, that was polite of her. I'd give her a million breaks anyway. The rest of them lousy no good doofuses can get lost!

You were saying you had no trouble with 3/4 ply. I had to have my 4x8s cut in half so I could handle them when I was fortifying my exterior walls five years ago. Do you eat a lot of spinach?

I'm not sure I said I had no trouble but I did develop a technique in my garage where I can get a full sheet of 3/4" plywood by myself onto my work horse table. First though, a full sheet of 3/4" plywood isn't terribly heavy, I think it weighs around 75 to 80 pounds, about the same as a bundle of roofing shingles. It's just awkward at 8'x4' and heavy enough to make the awkward part a difficult task.

I have the sheets standing upright against the garage wall and I roll up close to the stack in my wheelchair, I stand up, (I can stand for brief periods but I can't take a single step unassisted) then I'm able to slide a sheet from the upright position to a lengthwise position. I push the piece of plywood against the wall as I tip it over. This is the dangerous part because if I fall and break my hip, I won't survive a major broken bone, I'll explain that later. Then I sit back in my wheelchair and catch my breath and then I fasten two small bar clamps centered lengthwise on the sheet. And then I stand up again and I can yank that SOB up onto my cutting table!

When I was still working before I got paralyzed almost 19 years ago, I could flip a full sheet of 3/4" plywood on my shoulder and hump it up a two story ladder and I did that on the regular... And I'm not trying to be an internet tough guy! I'm an internet nice guy! And I love spinach, fresh or canned!
 
Just an Easter teaser... also finally this week with the help of my twin bro, my kitchen peninsula will finally get removed.

This cabinet is a pullout drawer for designed to hold two trash cans and it will be on the left side of the sink base. The drawer was too narrow by a full 1/8" and normally I would split the difference and shim both sides. But I had a yardstick that was the exact width that I needed so I only shimmed one side and now I have a measuring device on the side of the drawer! I just thought it was a fun idea and I'm curious if will ever come in handy.sink base opened 2.jpg
This is the sink base and it's my favorite! Notice the flip out tray at the false front. The two pull out drawers will need short channels cut out of the back of them to make way for the drain.
 
I don't get the paint scheme. What gives? Why did you paint just the front that flat looking black....the sides, inside and bottom of drawers white and then left some of it natural wood?

Looks like a lot of work, hope it's worth it all in the end.
