GAME 2023 NFL Draft Thread

it's silly to say you lost several games solely because of a secondary RB.

Ya we spent our first round pick replacing a guy who was doing great for us.

Awesome points.

That doesn't prove that he "lost you games". The dude's contract is up after this year and he's had injury issues. Makes sense why you'd replace him, but again, that doesn't mean he and he alone was the reason you lost games.

Also, you're assuming you made a smart pick at 12, which you didn't. Atlanta had a 1,000+ yard rookie rusher last year and still took a RB with a premium pick. Dumb teams make dumb picks, tale as old as time.

do you think the Lions would have fared as well against the Eagles later in the season?

don't forget the Eagles got better as the season went on too...they were trouncing teams just before the playoffs started.
Was Philly starting rookies all over the field last year? Scratch that question -- I just checked -- you had 9 games total started by rookies over the entire season. At the end of the year -- Detroit was starting FIVE ROOKIES on their defense.

So while I'm sure Philly improved, as pretty much all teams do, but Detroit was vastly different as they had half their defense playing in the NFL for the first time. Detroit had 21 sacks from rookies last year. So our defense, as a whole, was learning on the fly.

I'd think if you have a Chicago Bear as your avy -- you'd know first hand of at least one game Swift lost for Detroit. He dropped the game winning touchdown, WIDE OPEN, with less than 10 seconds to go in the game, which we lost by 4.

If the rest of your team was any good, you wouldn't have been down by 4 at that juncture of the game.

most teams are that early in the season. Not even just rookies, but new players getting used to a new defense and whatnot. I remember being pissed that we gave up so many points to a Lions team even though we still got a W.

He literally dropped a game winning TD in the end zone vs the Bears. That’s just one example that’s been posted in this thread.

Just so we're clear, you guys are talking about a game from 3 years ago, Swift's first game as a pro, where your defense collapsed in the 4th quarter and gave up a 17 point lead while also allowing Mitch Trubisky to toss 3 TDs with 0 INTs, that game?

they have been holding a grudge against Swift for quite some time it seems.

I like that somehow Gibbs is mentally tougher though...even though I don't see where they are pulling that from

The assumption he is mentally tougher since they reached for him in the first round.

It's funny they say he lost that game for them while neglecting the games he had as a rookie vs. Washington and Jacksonville where he tore it up en route to Detroit winning, let alone games like 2021 vs. Cleveland or 2022 vs. Philly where he played phenomenally but the rest of the team played like crap and they lost close.

None of that changes the fact that he dropped the game winning TD and lost the game for the team.

Big Swift fan. No grudges. By all accounts he was a good, talented player who can’t stay healthy and doesn’t believe in himself.

Maybe a fresh start in Philly is what he needs. Win/win.

And they like to pretend that Gibbs’ bad drop in the Tennessee game cost Bama the SEC West and a shot at the playoffs

do they have a WAR type stat for football?

The defense lost the game for the team, let's just be clear. Also, let's not forget the ugly INT Stafford threw when he was trying to force a pass that led to Chicago's go-ahead TD.

certainly sounds like you have a grudge against him...

unless you are just using all that a means to justify the reach for Gibbs in the first round.
